The act of preparing and sharing even the most simple meal brings friends and family together all across the world, breaks down barriers and allows us all to share the beauty of our many different cultures and heritage.
Learning a recipe from a relative is a tradition that transcends time, bridges generations and creates memories that nurture us all. Cooking also transcends now antiquated notions about cooking and gender roles -- there are so many dads sharing the joy of simple healthy ingredients, cooking for their parents and family and passing on legacy recipes to the next generation.
SugarRoti was so honored to cook with San Jose California Assembly member Ash Kalra in April in a virtual cooking session, along with his father. Through his cooking, Ash both honored his father and celebrated his Indian heritage while sharing a delicious and timeless Indian dish, aloo gobi with our SugarRoti community.
“My dad has dedicated his life to ensure the health and happiness of me and my brother. Although I can never repay him for his sacrifices, it is gratifying to be able to care for him in his golden years as our bond has strengthened. My favorite way to care for my father is to prepare healthy, fresh Indian food for him so we can share meals together.” -- San Jose California Assembly Member Ash Kalra
